Calmaison #9 Coconut Luxury Wax & Zinc Wicks
I'm currently testing Zinc wicks with Calmaison #9 Coconut Luxury Wax by CalWax. I'm hoping that this will be helpful to some when narrowing down which wicks to use. Feel free to adjust based on your wax/vessel/fragrance oil combo. I'm using a vessel (Libbey Heavy Rocks Base) that's 3-1/8" inner diameter at the top, so if yours is smaller, you will want to wick down. It's best to test a couple wick sizes in a few wick series or brands to see what you like the best! Feel free to reach out to me anytime if you have any questions at all. I'm here to help.
Zinc core wicks have a unique construction that provides maximum rigidity in a wide variety of candle waxes. The Zinc Core's jacket design is 100% all-natural and maintains unmatched rigidity in the molten wax pool. Zinc Core wicks are cotton braids with an inner zinc core (no lead alloys). Zinc core wicks are cooler burning reduce soot and mushrooming.
I'm using a 3-1/8" jar and the wicks I'm using are Zinc 36-24-24, 44-20-18, 44-24-18, and 44-28-18. I'm using between and 8-9% fragrance load. I will allow it to cure for 2 weeks before testing them. I will keep you updated! The other items I used when testing are the bowtie wick centering bars, and our candle wick trimmers.
If you've found a combination that works for you, please feel free to share your results below.
Results
Vessel Size | Wicks | Results |
Libbey HRB | 36-24-24 | Finished testing. This one was under-wicked. Too much wax buildup along the sides of the vessel. |
Libbey HRB | 44-20-18 | Finished testing. This one did ok, but there was still too much wax buildup along the sides. Too small. |
Libbey HRB | 44-24-18 | Finished testing. This one did well too, but there was a bit of hang up along the sides for the majority of the candle. |
Libbey HRB | 44-28-18 | Finished testing and this one did really well. I'm curious about the 44-32-18 and wondering how that one would do, but I did like this one. |
12 oz Aura | 36-24-24 x 2 | I've been testing this one and the vessel and I'm wondering if these wicks are too large? Will keep an eye on the bottom half for sure. Might need 1 size lower for double wicking. |
