Wick Testing Titan Wax Natural 5230 & CD Wicks
I'm currently testing Titan Wax Natural 5230 candle wax with CD candle wicks. I'm hoping that this will be helpful to some when narrowing down which wicks to use. Feel free to adjust based on your wax/vessel/fragrance oil combo. I'm using a vessel that's 3-1/8" inner diameter at the top, so if yours is smaller, you will want to wick down. It's best to test a couple wick sizes in a few wick series or brands to see what you like the best! Feel free to reach out to me anytime if you have any questions at all. I'm here to help.
About CD Wicks...
Stabilo, formerly knows as CD wicks respectively, the Stabilo wicks are coreless, non-directional, flat braided cotton wicks with a special paper filament woven around them. This configuration is engineered to promote maximum and consistent capillary action while ensuring a wick trimming flame posture. The Stabilo series is used in many different applications and is especially compatible with the harder to melt viscous vegetable-based waxes.
I'm using a 3-1/8" jar and the wicks I'm using are CD 10 (single wick), and CD 12 (single wick). I'm using Pumpkin Souffle at 9% fragrance load. I will allow it to cure for 2 weeks before testing them. I will keep you updated! The other items I used when testing are the bowtie wick centering bars and our candle wick trimmers.
If you've found a combination that works for you, please feel free to share your results below.

Wax Type | Vessel Size | Wicks | Fragrance Load | Results |
Titan Natural 5230 | 3-1/8" | CD 10 | 9% Pumpkin Souffle | This one had a bit more wax on the sides. It was decent overall, but this wick was seemed too small. No soot on the vessel, however. |

3-1/8" | CD 12 | 9% Pumpkin Souffle | This one turned out pretty good, actually. There was some wax hang up on the sides initially, and I wasn't sure how it would turn out. However, as the candle burned, the wax melted off of the sides. There was a tiny thin layer of residue on the sides of the jar but this may be a characteristic of this wax. I'm going to test a CD 14 and see how that one turns out. No soot on the vessel. |
