Wick Testing Coco Soy / EC26 Wax & LX Wicks
LX wicks are braided, coreless, flat wicks manufactured with stabilizing threads that ensure an optimum burn profile. The allows for a very stable and consistent flame, which minimizes, or eliminates, mushrooming / carbon buildup while reducing smoke and soot. These wicks are similar to Premier wicks in that they don't burn too hot.
I'm using a 3-1/8" jar and the wicks I'm using are LX 8 (double wick), LX 10 (double wick), LX 14 (single wick), LX 16 (single wick), and LX 18 (single wick). I'm using our Cashmere fragrance oil at 9% fragrance load. I will allow it to cure for 2 weeks before testing them. I will keep you updated!
If you've found a combination that works for you, please feel free to share your results below.
Results
Wax Type | Vessel Size | Wicks | Fragrance Load | Results |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | LX 8 (Double Wick) | 9% Cashmere | Still testing. **I'm about 1/3 of the way down and looking good so far. Jar is warm, but not too hot. No mushrooming. **I'm about 2/3 of the way down, and this is looking really good. It's burning slightly faster than the single wicks, but no mushrooming or soot. **This burned out second. Very light soot at the top. I could lower the fragrance load to 8% to see if it eliminates that problem. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | LX 10 (Double Wick) | 9% Cashmere | Great hot throw, but melt pool too deep & soon for coco wax, a tad over-wicked, jar too hot, mushrooming quite a bit. **This is over-wicked. It's burning really fast, and it's discoloring the wax some. **This burned out first and there was soot along the rim of the jar. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | LX 14 (Single Wick) | 9% Cashmere | Great hot throw, although this is looking like it's too small of a wick. Not self trimming, a little bit of mushrooming. **I'm about 1/3 of the way down and it's looking like the wick is too small. Mushrooming a bit. **I'm about 2/3 of the way through and I think this wick is too small. **Everything caught up and this ended up looking really good, too. For this size jar, it's between the LX 14 and LX 16. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | LX 16 (Single Wick) | 9% Cashmere | Still testing. **I'm about 1/3 of the way down and looking good so far. Jar is warm, but not too hot. Mushrooming a bit. **I'm about 2/3 of the way through this candle, and the extra hang-up wax on the sides has finally melted off. This looks really good to me. I little bit of mushrooming but I trimmed the wicks ahead of time. I could possibly lower the fragrance load to 8% and see what happens. **This wick worked the best. The melted wax was measuring about 140-150 F so really good hot throw. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | LX 18 (Single Wick) |
9% Cashmere |
Still testing. **I'm about 1/3 of the way down and looking good so far. Jar is warmer than the LX 16. This MIGHT be too big of a wick. I will see as it burns more. Mushrooming a bit. **I'm about 2/3 of the way through this candle, and I'm starting to see a tiny bit of soot at the top of the jar. I could possibly lower the fragrance load to 8% and see what happens. A bit more mushrooming compared to the LX16. **Heavy soot at the top and larger mushroom, but I trimmed the wick beforehand. Overall, I think this wick is slightly too big for this wax/wick/jar combo. |

I love that you’re doing this and posting the results! In the last week I’ve been testing LX wicks with Coconut 83 and have been surprised by how much I like them 👍
