Wick Testing Coco Soy / EC26 Wax & CDN Wicks
I'm currently testing Coco Soy / EC26 candle wax with CDN candle wicks. I'm hoping that this will be helpful to some when narrowing down which wicks to use. Feel free to adjust based on your wax/vessel/fragrance oil combo. I'm using a vessel that's 3-1/8" inner diameter at the top, so if yours is smaller, you will want to wick down. It's best to test a couple wick sizes in a few wick series or brands to see what you like the best! Feel free to reach out to me anytime if you have any questions at all. I'm here to help.
About CDN wicks...
The CDN series features a flat braided cotton wick with a special paper filament to promote maximum and consistent capillary action while ensuring a wick trimming flame posture. The difference between CDN wicks and CD wicks is a subtle but vital one. The CDN / Stabilo KST curls less while the CD / Stabilo curls more. Overall, they tend to burn cooler then the CD wicks in most waxes. CDN wicks will curl at approximately a 30-degree angle. The CD wicks curl to a 90-degree angle. The lesser angle or curl of the CDN wick will result in a smaller melt pool or base.
I'm using a 3-1/8" jar and the wicks I'm using are CDN 2 (double wick), CDN 3 (double wick), CDN 6 (single wick), CDN 7 (single wick), and CDN 8 (single wick). I'm using our Cashmere fragrance oil at 9% fragrance load. I will allow it to cure for 2 weeks before testing them. I will keep you updated!
If you've found a combination that works for you, please feel free to share your results below.

Results
Wax Type | Vessel Size | Wicks | Fragrance Load | Results |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 2 (Double Wick) | 9% Cashmere | This one looks good so far, but I will see as it gets closer to the bottom of the vessel. So far no soot. **This one looks really good, no soot and even burn. However, it burned faster than the single wicks. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 3 (Double Wick) | 9% Cashmere | This one looks good too, but it might be over-wicked because it's burning a bit faster than the CDN 2's. We will see as it gets closer to the bottom of the vessel. So far no soot. **There was SOME slight darkening (soot) at the top of the jar. These wicks burned super fast. I don't recommend this combo, because 1 wick will be sufficient. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 6 (Single Wick) | 9% Cashmere | I think this wick will be too small for this vessel. There is a bit of tunneling, but we will see. **There's still some tunneling and the candle is about half way done. **There's still some hang up on the sides and the temp of the melt pool is pretty low. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 7 (Single Wick) | 9% Cashmere | I'm keeping an eye on this one as well as the CDN 8. I think it will be between these two sizes. **There's still some wax hangup on the one side of the jar and it's about half way done. **I really like this wick for this wax, vessel combo. The temp of the melt pool is running in the mid 140's. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 8 (Single Wick) | 9% Cashmere | I'm sad because my CDN 8 is off center but I think it will be between the CDN 7 and CDN 8. I might have to re-pour & re-test this one. We will see. **I'm probably going to re-pour and re-test this one due to the wick being so off center. **This one turned out decent too, but I still like the CDN7 better I think. I will prob retest this wick and make sure it's centered better. The temp of the melt pool is running in the mid-160s. **I ended up repouring this to retest. **I retested this size and I really like the CDN 8 for this vessel, too. I think it's a toss up between CDN 7 & 8, depending on which fragrance oil you use. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 10 (Single Wick) | 9% Cashmere | I made a tester for this size. It did well, except towards the end, the vessel developed a thin layer of soot along the rim and sides of the vessel. |
EC26 | 3-1/8" | CDN 12 (Single Wick) | 9% | This wick is too large for this vessel. A lot of soot along the rim of the jar. |
